This year (2017) JMC Mechanical & Electrical proudly sponsored Darren ‘Coops’ Cooper in his road racing season. After being introduced to Darren by one of our employees, we could see how committed and determined ‘Coops’ was to achieve his dream ‘to win a Manx GP’. So we were happy to help. This was also a great opportunity to promote JMC Mechanical & Electrical within the Manx TT, being one of the biggest road racing events in the world.
First up was the Junior Manx GP. As Darren took off down Bray Hill on his Kawasaki ZX6R in a comfortable 3rd position he soon made up time which saw him move into 2nd. With a standing start lap of 120.018mph this meant he had joined the famous ‘Tommy Club’ as he chased down Michael Evans. Darren did everything he could to close the gap but managed to secure 2nd place on the podium.
After a fantastic result in the Junior Manx GP earlier that morning, it was time to aboard his Kawasaki ER650 super twin for the Lightweight Manx GP. Starting in 2nd after a great qualifying session Darren charged down Bray Hill once more with the throttle wide open. Feeling confident and comfortable with the bike and weather conditions, he started to gain time as he began lap 2, reeling in race leader Andy Farrel. Approaching the Bungalow Darren moved into 1st place and from here he broke away increasing the lead by +2 seconds. After a great pit stop from his crew, gaining more time, lap 3 was underway. As he continued to ride flawlessly the pit boards began to show his lead increasing +6…..+11.
The win was in sight.
On lap 4 as he approached Cregg Ny Baa for the final time the pit board showed +20 he knew then he just had to bring it home safely. Darren came close to the existing super twin record with very impressive 114.290mph lap.
Well done Darren… well deserved. We are glad to be a part of it. Let’s see what the next year will bring.
